MOUNTAIN HOST EXPECTATIONS AND PROGRAM OVERVIEW
The Big Sky Resort Mountain Host Program is an extension of the Big Sky Resort. It is a volunteer group, dedicated to the enhancement of the resort experience of our guests. Being a Mountain Host is a privilege and Hosts must conduct themselves in a manner that reflects maturity and good judgment. Reliability, flexibility, and contributing as a Team Member are expected. Key elements of the program are: Assisting guests on the mountain/ski slopes, assisting guests in the Plaza/Base Area and conducting group ski/board tours of the Resort’s ski runs/areas/facilities.
The mission of the Mountain Host Program: We Consistently Create Exceptional Experiences for our Guests
Mountain Hosts are expected to:
1. Possess excellent communication skills, have a positive attitude and personality, have the ability to take direction and work in a positive manner with all departments,
2. Familiarize themselves with the L.E.A.D.S. (Boyne Basics) and practice them in interactions with guests and fellow associates,
3. Be strong intermediate skiers or better. Be able to ski all of Big Sky’s blue runs confidently in any snow/weather conditions,
4. Have knowledge of the terrain on the entire mountain including the Tram, Challenger, South Face, North Summit and Headwaters areas,
5. Be able to work a schedule throughout the entire ski season and be “on call” for special tours,
6. Respect and follow all the rules applying to Big Sky Resort employees,
7. Sign an acknowledgement of risk. If a Mountain Host has any existing injuries or physical impairments that prevent him/her from working safely within the job description, the Big Sky Resort Mountain Host Manager must be notified.
8. Attend Mountain Host 1) daily meetings, 2) scheduled special meetings during the season and 3) orientation training in December,
9. Look professional, wear a full regulation uniform (zipped up/Velcro-closed jacket, plain black ski pants, and the prescribed Big Sky hat/cap) while on duty. The use of a helmet while skiing is mandatory.
10. Work approximately 112 hours to obtain the benefits offered Big Sky Mountain Hosts, including season passes, spouse pass discounts or vouchers.
11. Ski pass vouchers must not be sold or traded for goods. Violations may result in dismissal from the Mountain Host program and revocation of the ski pass.
12. Obtain information from guests to enable Big Sky Resort to conduct guest service surveys.
13. Have a cell phone on their person during shift assignments. Cell phones are used in lieu of radios as part of Host defined duties.
14. Ski normally groomed green and blue runs (no black diamond terrain) while on duty. Africa, Elk Park Meadow, Madagascar, Congo Line, Wolverine, Chucks Run and Sunlight are not to be skied/worked while in the Mountain Host uniform.
